How Much Water Is Coming Through Gavins Point Dam?

Nancy Gaarder of the Omaha World-Herald had an excellent story on Sunday called, “Even Tamed, River A Threat.” In it, she gives readers an idea of how much water will be traveling through Gavins Point Dam when releases reach 150,000 cubic feet per second next week:

Over the next 10 days, the amount of water being discharged will reach 150,000 cfs.

That’s 50 percent more than flows over Niagara Falls in the summer. It’s enough water to cover a football field 4 feet deep in one second.
