At the end of May, about a dozen people, including me, gathered at Ben’s Brewing Company in Yankton for an Ignite SD event.
What is Ignite? The organization sums itself up thusly:
Fast-paced, fun, thought-provoking, social, local, global—Ignite is all of these and more. It’s a high-energy evening of 5-minute talks by people who have an idea—and the guts to get onstage and share it with their hometown crowd. Run by local volunteers who are connected through the global Ignite network, Ignite is a force for raising the collective IQ and building connections in each city. And, via streaming and archived videos of local talks, local Ignites share all that knowledge and passion with the world.
I can honestly say we lived up to those ideals during the local incarnation of this phenomenon. Not only was it enlightening, it was a lot of fun, too.
Well, Ignite SD has videos posted so far from about half of the speakers that night. That means you can even watch my performance if you so desire.
I am vain enough to embed the video on my blog, but I’m not smart enough (or determined enough) at the moment to figure out how to embed videos from Vimeo. YouTube is no problem, but I assume I need some sort of plug-in for Vimeo. Boo hoo.
So just go to the Ignite SD site and check out my video there. Be sure to watch all the other ones posted on the homepage, as well. I’m not going to lie, it’s not as good as being there, but you’re still bound to learn something.
