Russell Hired As Kalispell City Manager

Kalispell, Montana – The Kalispell City Council announced that Doug Russell, current city manager in Yankton, SD, has been hired as Kalispell City Manager.  The post was opened to a national search in December 2011, when Jane Howington announced her resignation to accept the same post in Newport, RI.  Russell was one of three finalists chosen from a pool of 44 applicants, and interviewed in Kalispell last month. Mr. Russell has approved the contract offered, and the City Council will review and formally approve the contract at its regular meeting on April 16th. Once formally approved, Mr. Russell is expected to begin his new position June 18, 2012.
Mr. Russell, originally from Wyoming, graduated from Montana State University in 1996 with a degree in Psychology.  With his wife Lara, also a Montana State graduate, he moved to Colorado and began working for the City and County of Denver.  During this time, he earned a Master of Public Administration Degree from the University of Colorado at Denver.
Russell has since served as a city manager in Wyoming, Kansas, and currently in Yankton, South Dakota, population 14,500.  During his career, Mr. Russell has become a Credentialed City Manager, a Certified Public Finance Officer, and has received Accreditation in Public Relations.  With their two children, Brietta (13) and Rylan (11), Doug and Lara are excited about the opportunity to return to Montana and become part of the Kalispell community.
